Nancy wake

WALT: write a biography about a famous New Zealander

Nancy Wake, a figure in the French Resistance during the Second World War, was born in Wellington, New Zealand, on 30 August 1912. Her family moved to Sydney, where she grew up.  She ran away from home at the age of 16 and found work as a nurse, but a windfall enabled her to leave Australia for Europe in 1932. Wake settled in Paris, working for the Hearst group of newspapers as a journalist.  In November 1939 she married Henri Fiocca, a wealthy industrialist, in Marseilles. Six months later Germany invaded France. Wake and Fiocca joined the fledgling Resistance after France’s surrender in 1940.

Her growing involvement in the Resistance saw Wake and her husband assisting in the escape of Allied servicemen and Jewish refugees from France into neutral Spain. Fearful of being captured she too fled Marseilles and, after several thwarted attempts and a brief period in prison, Wake escaped across the Pyrenees. In June 1943 she reached England where she began working in the French Section of the Special Operations Executive (SOE).
After a period of training, Wake returned to France in April 1944 to help organise the Resistance before D-Day.

Upon liberation, Wake learned that her husband, Henri, had been killed by the Gestapo in August 1943. In September 1944 she left the Resistance and went to SOE Headquarters in Paris, and then to London in mid-October. After the war she was decorated by Britain, France and the United States but, being unable to adapt to life in post-war Europe, she returned to Australia in January 1949 aged 47.

Cats

Kia ora readers,

How have you all been this week? For week 9 my hurumanu are working on all about mammals. There are 4 different reading groups in my class. My group is called Karaka, and we are learing about the cat (cats behavior, how the cats mind works, etc) The other groups are working on mammal migration and animals and their homes. So today I will be explaning about cats.

Cats are very intelligent, cats have a righting reflex, which allows them to turn while in the air, so that they land safely on their feet. Using their sensitive ears, they are able to maintain balance and orient themselves, so they are not injured from a fall. Around 30% of a cat’s character is related to their genetic makeup. While the kitten also directly affects the character they will have in the adult form.

Here is a video about the cats if you wanna know a bit more:)

Here are some cool facts about cats!

  • Cats spend 70% of their lives sleeping. If you thought cats spent a lot of their lives sleeping, you’d be right.
  • Cats walk like camels and giraffes. Have you ever noticed that cats walk like camels and giraffes?
  • House cats share 95.6% of their genetic makeup with tigers.

I have also put in 9 key events on one of my activitys about the cats. Here it is 🙂

Well thats it for now readers! Thank you all for reading my blog and come back again! Do you know anything else about cats? If so please ask me 🙂 Bye bye!

Bonjour readers,

How are you all today? Feeling okay? This week for hurumanu our class is starting on book week 🙂 Something I choose was sharing one of my favorite books 🙂 you could choose anymore things like create a piece of art based on a book you have read or make a sulpture (etc) !

If you can tell I really enjoy a lot of action! Someone I really like reading is a mnaga artist called Katsuhiro Otomo. I have shared some stuff about him last blog post but basically he is a sreenrwriter, animator and film dircetor. He is known for making a movie/manga called Akira. I have read some of ther manga and I really love it. Aswell for the movie I watched. His artwork is incredibly amazing and I think you should check some of his stuff out 😀 Here is a image of his stuff!

The depth of the drawing blows my mind seriously. But thats mostly it for my choice on this weeks book week. Want to know more about the author? Just ask me or reasreach more about his stuff 🙂 Is there anything you like about the art ? Have a nice day, Au revoir readers!

Blog Choice

Bonjour readers,

This week our wananga have been doing a activity blog choice. What we do is choose something like a dlo for example endangerd animals or a poem ? Anything on our wanaga site we can pick. For my blog choice I chose a book that i’ve been reading over the week! 🙂 I have been reading a lot of graphic novels ( manga ) over the past year! I like a lot of horror, action and fantasy. My favoitve type of artists are Katsuhiro otomo and Junji ito! They both are manga artists but have amazing artwork and creativity and would love to get my hands on some of their work ;’)

Right now I am reading one of junji itos story collection called lovesickness. It’s about a boys town where people walk down streets in the fog and ask one random person that comes along and ask for their fortune. But they will ask about their love life. There are actually two stories in this book but haven’t gotten up to it yet. The second one is the hikizuri siblings. I wont explain more since this is a horror genre with a lot of gore but you can check out the book 🙂 Here is a photo of what the front of the book looks like!

Cool right? You can get one of these copys on online websites like book depository or popstop? But make sure to have a look into it 🙂 Well that’s my blog for today. Do you like reading? And what genre do you enjoy ? For now have a good rest of your day ! Au revoir .

What is a chorus?

This week for drama we are learning about what a chorus is. What is a chorus? Well it’s basically where a large group of organized people who sing. (peforms with an orchestra or opera company.

Another definition of a chorus is a group of singers or a refrain in a song.  An example of a chorus is the part of a song that repeats several times. A group of singers who perform together, usually singing multi-part compositions with more than one singer for each part.
